AMARYLLIDACEAE
This giant bulbous plant grows throughout southern Africa and radiates with its beautiful fan-shaped leaves. It has spectacular African names such as poisonous bulb, seer-eye flower, head-seer flower, boesman poison, and perdespook. One characteristic that can be deduced from this is that the bulb is extremely poisonous. If the plants are old enough, they can flower after a dormant period. These flowers are arranged in a spherical shape on the inflorescence, creating a fireworks effect. Once the inflorescence has finished blooming, it dries out, creating a truly spectacular dried bouquet.
It is undemanding. Best grown as a summer plant in colder Europe. It prefers full sun and watering when the pot becomes dry. Keep dry in winter.
