CUCURBITACEAE
This cucumber-related plant originates from South Africa (as far south as Namibia). It forms a caudex, sprouting beautiful and elegant vines during the growing season. These quickly form a huge network that is best left to climb around a stick or other structure.
The flowers are relatively inconspicuous. The caudex of this plant is its main attraction, and with its irregular shape, it's a cool architectural masterpiece.
Full sun. During the growing season, when the vines quickly emerge from the caudex, water regularly when the substrate threatens to dry out. In the fall, when the days become shorter and colder, stop watering and let the vines die back, cutting them back when they become unsightly. Keep dry during the winter. It will likely sprout again in spring.
