AMARYLLIDACEAE
This large bulbous plant related to the Amaryllis comes from the Eastern Cape of South Africa.
Under good growing conditions, the species exhibits twisted leaves, which gives it its name. It blooms in midsummer with fiery red flowers.
This species goes dormant in summer to avoid the heat. It revives with watering in autumn (starting in September). Then water slowly and sparingly throughout the winter. So be careful not to overwater in winter; it doesn't need much. Stop watering once temperatures rise (aim for May, or mid-June at the latest). Full sun.
